The purpose of this study was to assess and to monitor the strength and power performance for handball players trained at National Taiwan Sport University in the aspect of biomechanical approach. Twenty-eight male handball players and 18 female handball players were recruited for the participants and the longitudinal study carried out for explaining and predicating the performance of strength and power. The Biodex isokinetic system was used to acquire and to assess the performance of concentric action of knee and elbow in the loads of 30deg/s, 60deg/s, and 120deg/s. The results showed the maximal extension force in right knee decreased 32Nm under the condition of 30deg/s (p < .05), and the maximal flexion force in left knee decreased 20Nm under the condition of 30deg/s (p < .05) for male handball player. There were no significant differences for power and average force among test sessions in three load conditions (ps > .05) for male handball player. In the 30deg/s condition, there were no strength and power differences for female (ps > .05). But the extension force and power in right knee were improved under the condition of 60deg/s (ps > .05). The extension and flexion force and power were improved in right and left knee under the condition of 120deg/s (ps < .05). There were no differences for the elbow strength and power of male handball player (ps < .05). It indicated that the strength assessments of knee and elbow in high speed could respond to the exercise characteristic for handball. Participants’ strength were showed reduce in heavy load task. The results provided the information of strength and power for handball players, but also feedback to athlete or athletic coach was rapidly. | |
