Abstract
This article is mainly to examine the curriculum reform of the physical education in primary and high schools in England in the last two decades. There are four findings concluded as results of this study. First, the government of England has experienced the curriculum reforms of the national physical education for five times since 1992. Second, for the England pupils from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 4, the latest version of the national physical education curriculum stresses the importance of taking exercise for all, competitive sports, swim, physical fitness, the practices of physical education, and the connection between schools and the communities such as NGOs and NPOs. Third, there was no central official organization to govern the physical education in the UK since 1992 until 1997 when the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) was first established. The DCMS indeed has made significant contributions to the improvements of the physical education in England over the past twenty years. Finally, the DCMS co-operated with other government offices and NGOs since 2000 to provide with the resources and spaces for primary and high school students to take out-of-school and after-school physical exercises.
