Abstract
This study was to evaluate the accuracy of the body composition results from the Taiwan male and female football players by using segments bioelectrical impedance analysis. This study utilized standing mode eight electrodes bioelectrical impedance analyzer (BC418), dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (EDXA) to examine the composition of full body, upper extremities, lower extremities and trunk from 25 male football players and 20 female football players. The obtained results from EDXA showed that the full body fat ratio for male football players and female football players were 10.95 ± 5.27 % and 24.53 ± 5.26 % (mean ± S.D) respectively. The de-fat mass of upper extremities were 2.968 ± 0.398 kg and 1.860 ± 0.204 kg; the de-fat mass of lower extremities were 11.558 ± 1.239 kg and8.435 ± 0.957 kg; the de-mass of trunk were 24.601 ± 2.360 kg and 17.868 ± 2.040 kg; the de-mass of full body were 57.814 ± 5.001 kg and 41.872 ± 4.270 kg for male football players and female football players, respectively. However, the results from BC418 showed that the full body fat ratio for male football players and female football players were 10.53 ± 2.88% and 22.91 ± 3.36%, respectively. The de-fat mass of upper extremities were 3.089 ± 0.267 kg and 1.985 ± 0.211 kg; the de-fat mass of lower extremities were 12.654 ± 0.918 kg and 9.668 ± 0.941 kg; the de-mass of trunk were29.548 ± 2.588kg and 21.968 ± 1.885 kg; the de-mass of full body were 61.035 ± 4.432 kg and 45.263 ± 3.499kg for male football players and female football players, respectively. The correlation coefficients between BC418 and DEXA for the de-fat mass of upper extremities, lower extremities and trunk were 0.63 (male)-0.70 (female) and 0.48 (male)- 0.79 (female) (P < 0.001). The coefficients of de-mass of full body were 0.90 (male) and 0.83 (female) (P <0.001). The results demonstrated that high correlation of de-mass of full body was obtained from BC418 and DEXA analyses. However, low correlations between other parameter were demonstrated.
