本研究旨在於探討台中市12所大專校院體育館設施設置與經營現況，研究方法為訪談法與內容分析法，透過訪談的方式針對台中市12所大專校院體育室主任或體育館相關管理人員進行訪問，輔以觀察等方法，蒐集各受訪學校體育館之數量、內涵、經營管理等資料，並分析比較各校之異同。
　　研究結果發現台中市12大專校院中，仍有4所學校未設置體育館，其餘8所學校之體育館多數存有場地狹小、設備老舊、悶熱及管理人員不足的問題。另外，在開放使用方面，僅有逢甲大學在教學之外的時間對外開放個人使用，其餘各校雖具備對外開放民眾使用之基本條件，惟受到政策、場地、人力、經費等因素限制，實際執行仍有困難，因此目前並未提供對外開放使用的服務。
　　根據本研究結果，提出下列相關建議：各校應增建大型綜合體育館以改善場地與設備的缺失，並提升學校體育館管理人員的專業知能，在課餘時間另聘請專業的運動管理人員或利用工讀的方式，落實使用者付費的觀念，適度對外開放場地，才能充分發揮各校體育館的使用效益。

The purpose of this study was to investigate the quantity of sport facilities of gymnasiums among 12 colleges and universities in Taichung city, and to compare their management. Interview and content analysis were the primary method used in this study. Sport facility managers and administrators of physical education office were interviewed in order to collect information about both quantity and quality of these sport facilities of gymnasiums.
The result indicated that 4 out of 12 colleges and universities did not have gymnasiums. Most gymnasiums had problems of limited space, worn-out facilities, stuffy environment and manager shortage. Besides, only the facilities in Feng-Chia University was open to the applied members during non-school hours. Although the rest of universities have the basic condition to open the facility to the public, it is difficult to practice due to the limitation of policy, place, human resource and budget. Therefore they don't offer public service at present.
According to the result, several suggestions were made. First, schools should build large gymnasiums to solve the shortage problem of place and facilities, and promote manager’s knowledge and ability. Second, professional sport managers or part-time trainers should be more during non-school hours to fully make use of gymnasiums.
