Abstract
Choosing the ritual of “Bu-Gang-Ta-Dou”, performed by Mr. Yu-kun Lin Taoist-a member of Zhenyi Dao, as the study subject, this study focused on recording, analyzing, and in-depth exploring the steps and related culture carriers of Daoist, and the implications derived from the “Bu-Gang-Ta-Dou ” of “Fei-Gang-Cheng-Biau” in the “Bei-Dou-Chao-Ke” rituals in Northern Taiwan. This study was conducting mainly with fieldworks, complementing by on-site observing “Bei-Dou-Chao-Ke” rituals performed by Zhenyi Dao. Four more people were also interviewed with snowballing method, and the results shown that the Zhenyi Dao, flourished in Taiwan, is inherited from worshiping of stars in ancient China. The ways and procedures to instruct this ritual are nevertheless conscientious and careful, and well preserve even nowadays. The whole procedures are very similar to the narrations in the work of Taoist Rites, edited by Guang-ting Tu in Ming Dynasty, China. The entire ritual is full of symbolic signs, such as “Bu-Gang-Ta-Dou ” means of stepping toward the heaven, the paths of clockwise means orientating the bright side, and the four directions of North, East, West, and South are designated with certain specific meanings. However, we find that its musical and movement elements share some commonality with Chinese Beiguan folk songs and Chinese Opera respectively.
