Abstract

Canoe sprint is an on-water sport. Canoeing is kneeling on one knee, and uses a single-bladed flat paddle. Only few studies focused on the biomechanical analysis during canoe stroke in canoe sprint. The purpose of this study was to investigate the motion characteristic of the canoe stroke, examined the relationship between canoe velocity and the kinematic parameters of the canoe stroke, and comparison of on-water and canoe ergometer. The subjects were twelve male canoe sprint players. There were two tests in this study. The first one is the on-water 100 meters sprint test and the second test is the canoe ergometer 30s sprint test. All information will be gathered from high speed camera shooting and the motion analysis system to understand the motion characteristic of the canoe stroke. The results showed that the shoulder joint and the shoulder rotation had a greater range of motion, but the trunk tilt sideways and the pelvis rotation range of motion was smaller in canoe stroke. Comparison of the on-water and the canoe ergometer shows, the elbow joint, the trunk tilt forward, the trunk tilt sideways, and the support leg knee range of motion had significant differences. In conclusion, the on-water and the canoe ergometer were different in canoe stroke motion.
