Abstract

Introduction: Aging is an essential process, especially the muscle strength of lower extremities gradually decline. It reduces the walking ability and quality of life. Therefore, Older should do fitness training which improves the walk ability and life quality. The purpose of the investigation was to research the effect of eighteen-week lower extremities close-chain exercise for elders' walking ability and health condition. Method: Recruited 40 elders whose ages were above 65, 27 males and 13 females. Before and after intervention, we evaluated their walking ability and health condition, including systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, weight, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, hip circumference, muscle strength of lower extremities and 10 meters walking test. We analyzed the differences by paired t-test. Results: The walking ability improved after eighteen-week intervention. The walking ability was statistically significant. (p<.05). In lower extremities muscle strength was no significant differences. Also, there was no statistically significant relationship between systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, weight, BMI, waist circumference, and hip circumference. Conclusion: Eighteen-week lower extremities close-chain exercise was really helpful for elder's walking ability and health condition. We hope that the program could be the reference of instruction of the elder's exercise.
